Deep Purple Made In Japan 1972

Made In Japan is one of the best and most famous hard rock live albums that captured mark 2 Deep Purple at their peak, promoting the outstanding Machine Head album.

Purple have gone on to release plenty of live albums, some that date before this 1972 concert and some after but this is the one to hear first.

Just the look of the cover makes me quiver with excitement. I loved this as a teenager and have continued to love it for over thirty years.

The Who Who’s Last 1982

Who’s Last is the second live album released by The Who recorded in 1982 when the group was past its best and released in 1984.

Since Live At Leeds was recorded in 1970, this was the first chance to hear tracks from Who’s Next and Quadrophenia live but really, they shouldn’t have bothered.

It was their retirement record, released to mark the end of The Who.

I love The Who but there are much better live albums to choose from than this.

James Brown Live At The Apollo 1962

The original James Brown album, Live At The Apollo is one of the most famous and often regarded as one of the best live albums ever. It was recorded in 1962 and released in 1963.

It’s very, very good but I don’t think it quite lives up to its outstanding reputation.

Let me explain why.

The Rolling Stones Get Yer Ya Ya’s Out 1969

Get Yer Ya Ya’s Out The Rolling Stones in Concert is the second live album by the Stones following on from Got Live If You Want It.

It’s a classic.

The Rolling Stones Live Get Yer Ya Ya’s Out Review Rating 25/30

If you’re a fan of The Rolling Stones, then Get Yer Ya Ya’s Out is a must own album from the start of the Mark 2 Stones – without Brian Jones but with Mick Taylor on lead guitar – recorded in New York and Maryland in November 1969 just before Let It Bleed was released. Ya Ya’s was released in September 1970. The Rolling Stones Get Yer Ya Ya's Out Continue reading The Rolling Stones Get Yer Ya Ya’s Out 1969

For a genre or music built on studio perfection and concept albums, there is  a debate on whether there has ever been a truly great prog rock live album to rival class leaders from other fields like The Who Live In Leeds or Sam Cooke Live At The Harlem Square Club. Official Rolling Stones Bootlegs

I’m excited because I’ve just visited the official Rolling Stones fan club and it seems that some of the classic Rolling Stones bootlegs are now approved for sale.

There’s a Rolling Stones archive site where you can buy Rolling Stones bootlegs and it says officially authorised.

Is it a scam? I don’t think so because the link comes from rollingstones.com

What Are The Best Genesis Live Albums? Studio Album Poll Added

Genesis have released a few live albums over their career as the make-up of the group has changed along with their style.

Which Genesis live album do you think is the best?

The early Genesis Live album with Peter Gabriel perhaps or Seconds Out with Phil Collins as the lead singer. Perhaps one of the later albums like The Way We Walk with many ofriends their hit singles.

Or perhaps you love some of the rarer and less well known live recordings of Genesis.

I’ve cheated a little bit in the poll by including Live At The Rainbow 1973 as a separate album. This is available in the Genesis Live 1973 – 2007 box set (which also includes the first four commercially available Genesis live albums) and is also a famous bootleg. it deserves it’s own official release.

What’s so great about it? Continue reading What Are The Best Genesis Live Albums? Studio Album Poll Added
