Eddie & The Hot Rods released two great EPs at the beginning of their career to capitalise on their success as a great live band.
These are now available as bonus tracks on the reissue of their first album, Teenage Depression
Punk and new wave music was a big shock when it started to emerge in 1976 with its raw, basic, powerful sound.
Wikipedia defines punk rock as
“Punk rock (or simply punk) is a rock music genre that developed between 1974 and 1976 in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia. Rooted in garage rock and other forms of what is now known as protopunk music, punk rock bands eschewed perceived excesses of mainstream 1970s rock. Punk bands typically use short or fast-paced songs, with hard-edged melodies and singing styles, stripped-down instrumentation, and often political, anti-establishment lyrics. Punk embraces a DIY ethic; many bands self-produced recordings and distributed them through informal channels.”
Wikipedia defines New Wave as
“New wave music is an umbrella term for several late-1970s to mid-1980s pop/rock musical styles with ties to 1970s punk rock. The wide range of bands categorized under this term has been a source of much confusion and controversy. The new wave sound of the late 1970s moved away from the smooth blues and rock & roll sounds to create music with a twitchy, agitated feel, choppy rhythm guitars and fast tempos. Initially—as with the later post-punk—new wave was broadly analogous to punk rock before branching as a distinctly identified genre, incorporating electronic/experimental music, mod, disco and pop. It subsequently engendered subgenres and fusions, including New Romantic and gothic rock.”
Before punk and new wave came proto-punk and pub rock in the UK which laid some of the ground work for the “revolution” and after the initial burst of energy, the movement developed into what we know as indie rock and alternative rock.

BBC Radio One Live in Concert is a live album by Eddie And The Hot Rods that was recorded for the a radio broadcast.
Eddie and the Hot Rods were a group that emerged from the pub rock scene in Britain playing louder, faster and more aggressively than normal. They helped open up the market for punk rock and the Sex Pistols and The Clash.
Their earliest success was with the Live at the Marquee EP featuring a blisteringly fast version of Bob Seger’s Get Out Of Denver.
Unfortunately it didn’t do them any good. They weren’t punks but they didn’t fall into the classic rock or the emerging AOR categories either.
I think this album comes from concerts in 1977 and 1978.

Live At The Hope & Anchor 1977 is a live CD by Australian punk group The Saints which is included in the box set All Times Through Paradise.
This is available as an mp3 download so you can just grab disc 4, The Saints performing live in concert.
The Saints are often neglected when there is any review of punk rock. Instead the main focus is on The Ramones, the Sex Pistols and The Clash.
That’s a shame because I remember very clearly the excitement caused by the first single issued by The Saints, (I’m) Stranded in September 1976.
What was this noisy, fast music. We didn’t know where it was going to lead.
It’s Alive is the first live album by American punk band recorded in London on 31 December 1977 The Ramones. It is not the extended DVD called It’s Alive 1974-1996.
The album draws 28 tracks from the first three studio albums – The Ramones, Leave Home and Rocket To Russia – an in 54 minutes, you’re pressing the play button again.
Did someone say “fast”?
The Ramones It’s Alive
Live Jam is a live compilation album by new wave group The Jam. It was recorded between 1979 and 1982.
Shortly after The Jam’s first live album, Dig The New Breed came their second with a much wider collection of songs.
Unfortunately it is again compiled from different gigs in different times of the band’s evolution. This is frustrating as I feel I am still deprived of the proper experience of The Jam live.

Dig The New Breed is a live compilation album from The Jam featuring songs recorded at concerts between 1977 and 1982.
I remember the heady days back in 1977 and The Jam were caught up in the punk/new wave scene. It was a bit strange because their image and music was a long way from the Sex Pistols.
The developed into a very successful singles band with a series of number ones in the UK and created excellent albums including All Mod Cons and Setting Sons.

Live From Here To Eternity is a compilation live album from The Clash recorded between 1978 and 1982 in the UK and USA.
The Clash were one of the first punk rock groups in the UK, with Joe Strummer formerly with the pub rock group The 101ers. With their album London Calling in particular they went on to be so much more than punk.

Live At The Old Waldorf is a live album by Television recorded at the Old Waldorf, San Francisco on 29th June 1978.
It has been difficult to get because it’s twice been issued as a limited edition release but I bought the mp3 version from Amazon.
