Elton John Here And There 1974

Here And There is a live album recorded by Elton John in 1974. It’s very special for having the last public concert appearance by John Lennon who performs on three songs.

“Here” was recorded at the Royal Festival Hall in London in the summer of 1974; “There” was recorded Madison Square Garden, New York on November 28, 1974.

When the live album was first released in 1976 it was the only Elton John album that made any impression on me but it only had nine tracks. It was reissued in 1995 and we have finished up with 25 tracks.

Wow I wish that could happen more often.

Joni Mitchell Miles Of Aisles 1974

I have a weakness for Joni Mitchell.

She’s part of my Sunday morning playlist when I want something mellow to listen to.

It’s therefore no surprise that I like Joni Mitchell’s live albums, Miles of Aisles & Shadow & Light and both were recorded in the greatest decade for music, the 70s.

Joni Mitchell Miles Of Aisles

This album comes from the Court & Spark album in March and August 1974 and captures her at her commercial peak.

Bob Dylan Before The Flood 1974

Before The Flood celebrates Bob Dylan and The Band on tour in 1974 before his Blood On The Tracks album. I think there is an argument that this album helped return Dylan to form after a few years in the wilderness.

It’s an interesting album that has three parts:

  • Bob Dylan & The Band
  • Bob Dylan on his own
  • The Band on its own

Emerson Lake & Palmer Welcome Back My Friends 1974

The full title is of this live album by ELP is Welcome Back My Friends, To The Show That Never Ends… Ladies And Gentlemen, Emerson, Lake & Palmer.

When I was a young lad I used to look at this album and Yessongs by Yes and dream about the days when I could afford to buy a triple LP. It seemed so extravagant.

These two bands, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull and Genesis were at the very top of progressive rock’s list of dinosaurs.

Welcome Back My Friends was recorded on the 1973/74 world tour to promote the Brain Salad Surgery album. It was ELP’s second live album to be released after Pictures At An Exhibition.

Blue Oyster Cult On Your Feet Or On Your Knees 1974

On Your Feet Or On Your Knees is the first live album by Blue Oyster Cult, recorded at various concerts in 1974 promoting the Secret Treaties studio album. It was released in 1975.

Blue Oyster Cult’s speciality is melodic, guitar-based hard rock with sci-fi and occult or evil themes. The titles are often worse than the songs and may mislead you.

I’m wary of groups that lean towards the occult like Black Sabbath but BOC had some good tunes that kept bringing me back.To help you to decide if the songs are appropriate for you, I’ve linked to the lyrics

David Bowie David Live 1974

David Live by David Bowie was recorded on the Diamond Dogs tour in 1974 and marks the transition between the sci-fi glam rock of Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sane and the plastic soul of Young Americans.

I think it’s much better than its reputation.
