UFO Live In Texas 1979

Live In Texas 1979 is a live album of UFO after Michael Schenker was replaced by Paul Chapman recorded on 21st March 1979.

Chapman had previously been the second guitarist in UFO in 1974 to promote the Phenomenon album. He left in early 1975 to form Lone Star (another group I liked and saw live). He filled in for Michael Schenker during an absence in 1977.

Ted Nugent Live at Hammersmith ’79

Ted Nugent Live at Hammersmith ’79 is a recording made for King Biscuit Flower Hour of a 1979 Ted Nugent concert in London.

While the album wasn’t released until 1997, the recording positions it between Nugent’s first and second live albums, Double Live Gonzo and Intensities In 10 Cities.

This is one of the early gigs with Charlie Huhn as the new lead singer replacing Derek St. Holmes who was with Ted Nugent during his peak years in the late seventies.

Roxy Music Concerto or Ladytron 1979

Concerto is a live album by Roxy Music recorded in 1979 and released in 2001. It has also been released as Ladytron in 2002 and Concert Classics in 1998.

Confused?

This is Roxy Music after they’ve reunited and recorded the Manifesto studio album so it’s a much smoother, perhaps less interesting group.

This album has been released under license and Briyan Ferry and the other members of Roxy Music have had nothing to do with the release.

Queen Live Killers 1979

Live Killers is the first live album by Queen, recorded and released in 1979 from concerts promoting the Jazz studio album.

Long terms fans have been wanting a live queen album from the mid -seventies on their tours to promote A Night At The Opera or A Day At The Races. Nothing has yet appeared, making Live Killers the best souvenir of Queen as a live rock band before they went soft.

Talking Heads The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads 1977 to 1981

The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads is a live compilation album from Talking Heads spanning the years from 1977 to 1981.

This represents the time when Talking Heads were at their most innovative, coming out of the punk movement at the CBGBs club but sounding nothing like punk. In my classification system I’m treating talking Heads as both a new wave band and an art rock band.

This album represents Talking Heads at their brilliant, quirky best and in my opinion is even more exciting than Stop Making Sense.

If you’re wondering about the title, the group were often incorrectly called The Talking Heads. David Byrne would often introduce songs with the phrase “The name of this song …”

Graham Parker Live In San Francisco 1979

Graham Parker Live In San Francisco 1979 captures Parker live in concert with his great band The Rumour on the Squeezing Out The Sparks tour.

Graham Parker should have been huge with his high energy, caustic R&B inspired songs. Even though it was the time of punk rock, few acts could match the intensity he built up in concert.

Graham Parker & The Rumour really were “the best kept secret in the West” as he sings in Mercury Poisoning as he rants against his previous record company.

I believe this album was only released in 2010. I bought it as soon as I saw it.

Eric Clapton Just One Night 1979

Just One Night is a live album by Eric Clapton recorded at the Budokan Theatre, Tokyo, December 1979 when he was promoting the Backless album.

Claton had got into a groove in the late seventies with his easy listening blues albums like No Reason To Cry, Slowhand and Backless but he could still get excited when playing live.
