Decade Of Aggression is a live album by American heavy metal group Slayer.
It pulls its songs from three concerts:
This isn’t to my tastes but it is doing well in my readers poll to find the best heavy metal live album. It’s an album that makes me feel very old.
Union Live is a live album from the tour promoting the studio album Union plus the seventies classics.
It was recorded at the California Shoreline Amphitheatre on the November 22nd, 1991.
5 members of Yes weren’t enough this time. Yes had splintered into a Chris Squire led group called Yes and the old members of Yes had formed a competing group called Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe. This was a genuine union based on re-uniting the two strands of Yes.
Jon Anderson: lead vocals / rhythm guitar / tambourine
Steve Howe: guitar / vocals
Trevor Rabin: guitar / vocals
Tony Kaye: keyboards / sound effects
Rick Wakeman: keyboards / synthesisers
Chris Squire: bass / vocals
Alan White: acoustic drums / percussion
Bill Bruford: electric drums / percussion

In December 1991, after his revival with the Traveling Wilburys, Eric Clapton convinced former Beatle, George Harrison to go on tour in Japan. What happened is recorded on this Live In Japan album.
I ache for a live album from The Beatles recorded around 1969. I know it can’t happen because they gave up touring a few years earlier but I’d love to hear live versions of the songs from Revolver, Sergeant Pepper, The White Album, Abbey Road and Let It Be.
I came up with the idea of Paul McCartney plays The Beatles live because he regularly performs plenty of his classic tunes ad started to speculate on what songs I’d love to hear that John Lennon wrote. I didn’t really think about adding in George Harrison’s songs too but after hearing Live In Japan, I realise that was a mistake.
24 Nights is an Eric Clapton live album recorded during long stints at the Royal Albert Hall, London in 1990 and 1991. It includes five songs from the Journeyman album he was promoting at the time.
During these concerts Clapton was experimenting with different formats of backing band – 4-piece, blues, 9-piece and orchestra nights and all of these are captured on 24 Nights.
A well structured play list stops the album sounding like a messy mixture as each format is grouped together.
Neil Young Weld was recorded in 1991 on the tour to promote the Ragged Glory album with Crazy Horse and it rocks hard.
If you’re a fan of hard rock and you’ve dismissed Neil Young as an acoustic folkie based on songs like After the Goldrush and Harvest Moon, you’re in for a big shock.
There’s nothing subtle or gentle in this album.
On the other hand, if you want Neil Young, the folk singer-songwriter playing live, then you’d better hurry along to Live At Massey Hall.
