Yes In The Present Live from Lyon 2009

Yes In The Present Live from Lyon is a live album and DVD by progressive rock group Yes.

It was recorded at the Bourse du Travail in Lyon, France on 1 December 2009.

There are important band member changes to notice with this live album as it doesn’t have the distinctive voice of Jon Anderson. It also features Rick Wakeman’s son on keyboards rather than his father.

Benoit David: lead vocals
Steve Howe: guitar / vocals
Oliver Wakeman: keyboards
Chris Squire: bass / vocals
Alan White: drums / percussion

Yes Symphonic Live 2001

On the live album Symphonic Live, Yes perform with the European Festival Orchestra.

The recording comes from the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam on 22 November 2001, with Wilheilm Keitel conducting the European Festival Orchestra.

Confusingly, the main version is a double CD but there is also a single CD with fewer songs. There is also a DVD option.

The full set list includes many of the well known songs from the seventies including Gates Of Delirium from Relayer.

There has been another change in keyboard players with Tom Brislin

Jon Anderson – vocals, acoustic guitar, percussion
Steve Howe – guitar, lap steel guitar, backing vocals
Tom Brislin – keyboards, backing vocals
Chris Squire – bass, backing vocals
Alan White – drums, backing vocals

Genesis Live Over Europe 2007

Live Over Europe 2007 is a live album by Genesis recorded on their European tour in 2007.

Genesis have moved along way from their prog rock days of the early 1970s with Peter Gabriel. This album makes a good attempt at summarising and reconciling their history although it avoids the more extreme progressive rock numbers.

But let’s face it, we want Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett back for those, don’t we?

Van Der Graaf Generator Real Time 2005

Real Time is a live album by progressive rock group Van Der Graaf Generator which captures their reunion concert at the Royal Festival Hall in London, England on 6th May 2005.

I think of Van Der Graaf Generator as hard-core progressive rock. If you’re attracted to them by the similarities between Peter Hammill and Peter Gabriel’s voices then you need to be aware that there is none of the Genesis whimsy.

VDGG didn’t play it for laughs and you have to be in the right mood to appreciate the beautiful but depressing music. Then it can be remarkably uplifting.
