PFM Cook 1974

Cook is a live album by Italian prog rock group Premiata Forneria Marconi or PFM for a shorter, easier to say name.It has also been released as Live In The USA.

It was recorded in Cleveland and Toronto in 1974.

Progressive rock was popular in Italy in the early to mid 1970s and as well as supporting British bands, they also had a thriving prog rock scene of their own.

Premiata Forneria Marconi were one of the leading lights and Greg Lake of Emerson, Lake and Palmer had them signed for Manticore and tried to break them in the English speaking countries.

Their Italian classic from 1972 Per Un Amico effectively became Photos of Ghosts thanks to new lyrics written by Peter Sinfield.

This live album is partly in English and partly in Italian.

It has been extended in 2010 by adding the entire concert from Central Park, New York City recorded on 31st August 1974. This duplicates some of the tracks but it’s very nice to have.

Locanda Delle Fate Live 1977

Locanda Delle Fate Live is a live album by Italian prog rock band Locanda Delle Fate which was recorded in 1977 but not released until 1994.

I don’t know much about this group except that they recorded a terrific debut studio album in 1977 called Forse Le Lucciole Non Si Amani Piu. It’s highly recommended to anyone who likes symphonic prog and doesn’t mind the singing in Italian. I don’t understand it but that hasn’t stopped me enjoying opera.

Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso Seguendo Le Tracce 1975

Seguendo Le Tracce is a live album recorded by Italian prog rock giants Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso in Salerno, Italy in April 1975.

About ten years ago I went through a phase where my interest in progressive rock went sky high. Powered by the new information that was available to me from the Internet, i discovered great Italian prog rock bands like Banco Del Mutuo Soccorco.

They recorded three of the very best prog rock albums, right of up there with Close To The Edge (Yes) and Foxtrot (Genesis) – Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, Darwin! and Io Sono Nato Libero.

Because the lyrics are in Italian, I don’t have a clue what they are singing about but it’s never really concerned me as I’m swept along by the music.

You can find out more about Banco at ProgArchives, a very specialist prog rock website. When I became addicted, the influence of the Italian groups was much higher on this website but I guess more mainstream fans have found it.
