Hawkwind Space Ritual Alive 1972

Space Ritual Alive is the first live album released by heavy space rock group Hawkwind. It was recorded in Liverpool and London in December 1972 on the tour to promote the Doremi Fasol Latido album.

Hawkwind had a hit single earlier in the year with Silver Machine. It’s not on this live album but I thought I’d post a video of the group performing it in 1972 to help get you in the mood.

Gnidrolog Live 1972

Let’s take a step back to rare early seventies progressive rock with Gnidrolog Live 1972 which was recorded in my home town of Birmingham, UK.

The group is best known for the Lady Lake album which is a missing gem of British progressive rock. Think of them as a cross between Jethro Tull and Van Der Graaf Generator but with humour.

Yes Yessongs 1972

Yessongs was the first live album by progressive rock group Yes in 1972 and it was a triple promoting the  Fragile and Close To The Edge studio albums. It is now a double CD.

This album challenges the idea that progressive rock live albums aren’t exciting. I’ve even wondered myself whether some groups are better in the studio than live but Yes show they are terrific.
