Please help me discover what is generally considered to be the best disco live album ever by voting in my poll.
What Is Disco?
When I was a teenager I didn’t properly appreciate how great the dance music was in the disco era in the mid to late seventies.
Disco combines the strong vocal performances of classic soul with the strong rhythms of funk.
Once again there are grey areas between the categories as both funk and soul artists of the time followed popular opinion to where the money was.
When I think of disco l think of Chic, Sister Sledge, Gloria Gaynor and Donna Summer.
Michael Jackson and his brothers in The Jacksons moved from Motown based soul to disco around the time of the Off The Wall album and the Blame It On The Boogie single.
Other soul artists didn’t succeed in the crossover.
Kool and the Gang moved to disco from a much harder funk sound into disco.
What Are The Best Disco Live Albums?
What live albums capture the excitement of disco without straying too far into soul or funk? You can vote for up to two of your favourites.
Loading ...Who have I missed? I couldn’t see a popular or highly rated live album by Gloria Gaynor for example. I also can’t see a Bee Gees live album that has enough disco based content to qualify.
