Genesis Selling England By The Pound Live

In this article I want to look at how the great studio album Selling England By The Pound has featured on the Genesis live albums.

This put Genesis into the singles charts with I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe).

I believe it’s one of the three essential Genesis Studio albums along with Foxtrot and A Trick Of The Tail.

Generally I think Genesis sound better live.

Overview of Selling England By The Pound As A Live Album

The regular appearance of Firth of Fifth, Cinema Show and I Know What I Like emphasise the importance of Selling England By The Pound even as Genesis adapted their sound.

Dancing With the Moonlit Knight deserves to be reprised as well although its title gives the prog rock game away.

Back in the early 1970s Genesis didn’t play very long sets but the standard set list for the Selling England By The Pound tour was:

  • Watcher of the Skies
  • Dancing With the Moonlight Knight
  • The Cinema Show
  • I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)
  • Firth of Fifth
  • The Musical Box
  • More Fool Me
  • Encores – Supper’s Ready and Horizons

The subsequent tours of Genesis with Peter Gabriel promoted The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway album and performed it in its entirety. This left no room to feature any tracks from Selling England By The Pound as the Musical Box was the regular encore.
