What are the best Jimi Hendrix live albums? Only Monterey and Band Of Gypsys were released during his lifetime but there are plenty to choose from that have been released after his death.
To put the dates of the live recordings into context of the studio albums:
- Are You Experienced? – recorded December 1966 to April 1967, released May 1967
- Axis Bold As Love – recorded May to October 1967, released December 1967
- Electric Ladyland – recorded July 1967 to August 1968, released October 1968
The Jimi Hendrix Experience broke up in June 1969 and then reformed for a few months before his death on September 18, 1970.

What Are The Best Blues Rock Live Albums?
I’m shying away from including Jimi Hendrix in the heavy metal live albums poll. While he was a big influence on guitarists, I’m planning to list him under blues rock with rival groups like Cream and Rory Gallagher.
