Steve Hackett Genesis Revisited Live At Hammersmith 2013

Genesis Revisited: Live At Hammersmith is a live album and DVD by former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett.

It was recorded at the Hammersmith Apollo in London on 10 May 2013.

With guests including Nik Kershaw, John Wetton, Jakko Jakszyk, Steve Rothery and Amanda Lehmann, Hackett revisited the songs from his time in Genesis including the prog rock studio classic albums Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, Selling England By The Pound, The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, A Trick Of The Tail and Wind & Wuthering.

Genesis have live albums from this period and both Seconds Out and Genesis Live are high in my poll to find the best prog rock live albums (see below), none of them have the scope of Live At Hammersmith or its follow up Live At The Royal Albert Hall.

Genesis The Way We Walk Volume Two The Longs 1992

The Way We Walk Volume Two: The Longs is the second live album to come from the 1992 tour to promote the studio album We Can’t Dance.

It was recorded at Niedersachsenstadion in Hannover, Germany on 10 July 1992 and 13 July 1992.

It compliments The Way We Walk Volume 1: The Shorts which had live versions of many of their hit singles.

Genesis Live Over Europe 2007

Live Over Europe 2007 is a live album by Genesis recorded on their European tour in 2007.

Genesis have moved along way from their prog rock days of the early 1970s with Peter Gabriel. This album makes a good attempt at summarising and reconciling their history although it avoids the more extreme progressive rock numbers.

But let’s face it, we want Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett back for those, don’t we?

Genesis Selling England By The Pound Live

In this article I want to look at how the great studio album Selling England By The Pound has featured on the Genesis live albums.

This put Genesis into the singles charts with I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe).

I believe it’s one of the three essential Genesis Studio albums along with Foxtrot and A Trick Of The Tail.

Generally I think Genesis sound better live.

Genesis The Way We Walk Volume One The Shorts 1992

The Way We Walk Volume One: The Shorts is a live album from Genesis, mainly recorded in 1992 on the We Can’t Dance tour and with three tracks from the 1986/87 Invisible Touch tour.

Genesis used to be a top rated progressive rock band but over the release of the live albums from Genesis Live via Seconds Out and Three Sides Live but see the group evolve to a pop rock band.

This live album concentrates on their hit singles. A companion album, Genesis The Way We Walk, Volume Two: The Longs gives more attention to their more progressive songs

Genesis Live At The Rainbow 1973

Live at the Rainbow 1973 is a live album by progressive rock group Genesis that is included in the Genesis Live 1973–2007 box set.

This captures Genesis promoting the fantastic Selling England By The Pound studio album. In my opinion this is one of the greatest progressive rock albums so how well do the songs sound live?

It also has their prog rock anthem, Supper’s Ready with Peter Gabriel. Phil Collins did a great job on Seconds Out but it’s great to have the original.

This Rainbow concert is available as a CD and a DVD in the box-set. Unfortunately the DVD has two extra tracks.

Some of these songs also appear on the Genesis Archive 1967 – 1975 box set which is available for mp3 download so you can pick and choose the songs you want.

Genesis Three Sides Live 1981

Three Sides Live is the third Genesis live album, mainly recorded on the 1981 Abacab tour. This is partway on the move from prog-rock to pop-rock.

It’s a confusing background with different versions of the album released in the UK and the USA.

The American version of the album had three sides live and one side of an LP with studio recordings. The British version had extra live songs from earlier, more progressive concerts.

In 1994 the British version of the album was remastered and released throughout the world.

Some of the songs were recorded at the NEC, Birmingham on 23rd December 1981 and I think I was at that gig. I certainly saw Genesis several times at the NEC in the early eighties.
