Best Live Album Poll Results To 31 December 2015

Here are the poll results for music genres for voting up to 31 December 2015.

I’ve only shown polls with 50 or more voters.

Best Art Rock Live Albums – 148 voters

  1. Second Coming by Deaf School
  2. Stage by David Bowie
  3. Nassau Coliseum ’76 by David Bowie

The campaign by Deaf School keeps them at the top of this poll but David Bowie is creeping up after them.

Best Blues Rock Live Albums – 266 voters

  1. Live At Fillmore East by The Allman Brothers Band
  2. Irish Tour ’74 by Rory Gallagher
  3. Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out by The Rolling Stones

A nice variety of blues rock albums in a genre where the basic sound is good but can get a bit too similar.

Best Classic Rock Live Albums – 259 voters

  1. Frampton Comes Alive by Peter Frampton
  2. Live And Dangerous by Thin Lizzy
  3. Live Bullet by Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band

I don’t understand the enduring popularity of Peter Frampton but I endorse the greatness of the albums that are second and third.

Best Hard Rock & Heavy Metal Live Albums – 394 voters

  1. Made In Japan by Deep Purple
  2. Live At Leeds By The Who
  3. Strangers In The Night By UFO

Many of the albums in this genre are too much for me but these are three classics.

Best Prog Rock Live Albums – 224 voters

  1. Yessongs by Yes
  2. Seconds Out by Genesis
  3. Pulse by Pink Floyd

No argument from me about the first two in this poll but Floyd deserve an official Waters – Gilmour – Wight – Mason album to capture their glories in the 1970s.

Best Singer Songwriter Live Albums – 81 votes

  1. Live Rust by Neil Young
  2. At Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash
  3. Live 1975 Rolling Thunder Revue by Bob Dylan (third equal)
  4. It’s Too Late To Stop Now by Van Morrison (third equal)

Again these are fine albums and I’m pleased to see the Rolling Thunder Revue beat the Live 1966 Royal Albert Hall album.

Best Soul Live Albums – 90 voters

  1. Live At The Harlem Square Club by Sam Cooke
  2. Live At The Apollo 1962 by James Brown
  3. Live by Donny Hathaway

Another example of the fine taste of the readers of the blog. Their votes introduced Donny Hathaway to me since he is not well known in the UK.

Best Southern Rock Live Albums – 87 voters

  1. Live At Fillmore East by The Allman Brothers Band
  2. One More From The Road by Lynyrd Skynyrd
  3. Waiting For Columbus by Little Feat

These three are romping away with this poll and the Allman Brothers Band’s most famous album is good enough to top two of these genre polls.

Some of my favourites are missing and I suspect that some of yours aren’t here either, so you should vote to express your opinion. And if I haven’t included an album, let me know.
