Bruce Springsteen 1978/08/09 Cleveland Ohio

Finally we have one of Bruce Springteen’s fantastic 1978 live recordings receiving an official, authorised release.

1978/08/09 Cleveland Ohio is a live album by Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band performing at the Agora and which is sold through live.brucespringsteen.net.

This concert was originally broadcast on the radio and has been a very popular bootleg. It was also released unofficially through the loophole in the European Union copyright laws a few months ago – see Bruce Springsteen Agora Ballroom 1978.

Ignore everything else, this is the REAL DEAL!

Background To The Cleveland Release

Toby Scott found the seven Agora tape reels in a box that had been returned from the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall Of Fame. A comparison to other recordings of this concert showed that this had the best sound and could even be the original master tapes. These have since been cleaned up and the sound quality is terrific.

It is available as a digital download in varying qualities and also as physical CDs

Overall Rating For Bruce Springsteen Live At The Agora, Cleveland on 08/09/1978 – 29/30

I believe that this is one of the finest live recordings ever made available legally.

If it has been released close to the time or recording, I believe that this would be generally recognised as one of the greatest live albums along with The Who Live At Leeds , The Rolling Stones Brussels Affair 1973 and other classics.

Talking Heads The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads 1977 to 1981

The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads is a live compilation album from Talking Heads spanning the years from 1977 to 1981.

This represents the time when Talking Heads were at their most innovative, coming out of the punk movement at the CBGBs club but sounding nothing like punk. In my classification system I’m treating talking Heads as both a new wave band and an art rock band.

This album represents Talking Heads at their brilliant, quirky best and in my opinion is even more exciting than Stop Making Sense.

If you’re wondering about the title, the group were often incorrectly called The Talking Heads. David Byrne would often introduce songs with the phrase “The name of this song …”

Jess Roden Live At The BBC 1976

Live At The BBC is a live album of the Jess Roden Band live in concert in December 1976 from The Hippodrome, London with four extra live in the studio recordings from 1975. These were broadcast on the John Peel show and that’s where I first heard Jess Roden.

In fact it might be the only place I’ve heard this great singer on the radio.

I was thrilled when I found this album was released on CD in 1996 and I think it could be the best live album ever.

A bold statement but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve played this CD. It’s a perfect mix of rock, soul, blues and funk. I adore it.

I used to have a previous live album by Jess Roden called Blowin’ which I loved as an LP.

Bruce Springsteen Hammersmith Odeon London 75

Hammersmith Odeon 75 captures the first visit by Bruce Springsteen to the UK in 1975 after Born To Run was released.

The retrospective Live 1975 – 85 is a very comprehensive collection of Springsteen live but fans were critical because it was a live performance compilation.

Hammersmith Odeon is how long-standing fans really want to hear Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band play live – a complete concert that captures the excitement and passion of a Springsteen gig.

The Rolling Stones Brussels Affair 1973

Brussels Affair is an official, authorised version of a famous Rolling Stones bootleg from the 1973 Goats Head Soup tour.

It’s brilliant.

Fans of the Stones have wanted this release for years as it catches the mark 2 version of the band with Mick Taylor rather than Brian Jones in their full glory

If you like Get Yer Ya Ya’s Out, you’ll love The Brussels Affair.

The Who Live At Leeds 1970

The Who Live At Leeds is arguably the greatest live album ever recorded.

I thought about which live album was going to be the first one to feature on my Best Live Albums blog and in the end, I decided the answer was obvious.

The first one I ever bought.

I always think of this as The Who Live At Leeds although others refer to it as Live At Leeds by The Who. From 2012 onwards, there is also The Who Live At Hull to consider.
