Muddy Mississippi Waters Live is a live album by Muddy Waters.
The songs were recorded in 1977 and 1978 when Muddy Waters was going through a revival in his career thanks to the Hard Again studio album for Johnny Winter’s Blue Sky label. In 1978, Waters released the I’m Ready studio album.
It was originally issued as a seven track single album in 1979 which was then issued as a CD in 1991. In 2003, a second CD was added to create the Legacy Edition while the shorter album also stayed in print.

According to Discogs, CD1 came from two sources:
- Tracks 1,2, 3 and were recorded at Harry Hope’s, Cary, Illinois on 25th and 26th August 1978.
- Tracks 3, 5, and 7 were recorded at Masonic Auditorium, Detroit, Michigan on 3/18/77.
For CD2, all the tracks were recorded at Harry Hope’s, Cary, Illinois on 25th and 26th August 1978.
His main band included Pinetop Perkins on piano, Bob Margoilin and Luther Johnson on guitars, Jerry Portnoy on harmonica, Calvun Jones on bass and Willie Smith on drums. Johnny Winter guested on some tracks and the Detroit tracks had Charles Calmese on bass and James Cotton on harmonica.
