This page has readers polls to find the best live album by The Who and the best studio album by The Who.

What Is The Best Live Album By The Who?

It may seem like an obvious question but what do you think is the best live album by The Who?

Do you agree with the critics that Live At Leeds is the one album to buy if you want to hear The Who live and at their best?

Or do you think it’s a more unusual choice like Who’s Last? Continue reading What Are The Best Albums By The Who?

The Rolling Stones Brussels Affair 1973

Brussels Affair is an official, authorised version of a famous Rolling Stones bootleg from the 1973 Goats Head Soup tour.

It’s brilliant.

Fans of the Stones have wanted this release for years as it catches the mark 2 version of the band with Mick Taylor rather than Brian Jones in their full glory

If you like Get Yer Ya Ya’s Out, you’ll love The Brussels Affair.

Bruce Springsteen Live In New York City 2000

Live In New York City captures Bruce Springsteen reunited with the E Street Band in 2000. Their first concert together for 11 years.

For me Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band belong together like strawberries and cream. One without the other doesn’t feel right and it’s going to be tough hearing them play again with a replacement for the Big Man (Clarence Clemons).

The Best Bruce Springsteen Live Albums

Do you have a favourite Bruce Springsteen live album?

For many years when Bruce Springsteen was at his peak, there were no official Springsteen live albums. Plenty of bootlegs but nothing official.

This was crazy for such a great live performer.

Then the box set – five vinyl LPs – of Live 1975/85 was released.

Because it pulled recordings from many different times and venues, it told the world that there were many top quality live recordings and many Bruce Springsteen fans wanted more.

Since then there have been some more recent performances released as CD and video.

There has also been an archive release of Bruce Springsteen Live At The Hammersmith Odeon in 1975 when he was promoting Born To Run.

If so, I’d appreciate it if you could vote in my poll.

David Bowie David Live 1974

David Live by David Bowie was recorded on the Diamond Dogs tour in 1974 and marks the transition between the sci-fi glam rock of Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sane and the plastic soul of Young Americans.

I think it’s much better than its reputation.

Genesis Seconds Out 1977

One of my favourite progressive rock live albums is Seconds Out by Genesis. It was recorded in 1976 and 1977 in Paris on the tours for A Trick Of The Tail and Wind and Wuthering.

I must admit to an element of bias in favour of this rather than Genesis Live.

I was first introduced to Genesis through a review of A Trick Of The Tail in a weekly music paper called Sounds and bought both Wind and Wuthering and Seconds Out as soon as I saw them. I also saw Genesis live in Stafford in 1976 or 1977.

This means I never had any trouble with the move from Peter Gabriel to Phil Collins as the lead singer and have a mixed opinion of the Gabriel era Genesis.

For some reason the Trespass and Nursery Cryme studio albums have made little impact with me and I believe The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway is both overblown, over-complicated and over-rated.

Bob Dylan At Budokan 1978

In my opinion Bob Dylan At Budokan is an overlooked classic which is too often derided because he was experimenting with a very different sound on this album and the studio LP Street Legal.

I love it.
