Psychedelic Live Albums
This category catches the live albums that comes the groups that were successful in the drug addled late sixties like Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane and The Doors. Many of these groups gathered in the San Francisco area but not all. I’m including Velvet Underground in this category as well.

Loading ...Skull & Roses is a live album by the Grateful Dead.
It was recorded in March and April 1971 including the Fillmore east concerts in April 1971 that provided songs for the four CD album Ladies and Gentlemen…the Grateful Dead.

Bless Its Pointed Little Head is a live album by Jefferson Airplane. It was recorded in October 1968 at the Fillmore West in San Francisco and in November 1968 at the Fillmore East in New York.

The Doors In Concert is a compilation album of The Doors live in concert between 1968 and 1970 and includes their first live album, Absolutely Live together with Alive She Cried and some extras.
In the UK it is also known as American Nights.

Live at Max’s Kansas City is a live album by The Velvet Underground recorded in one of the last concerts that featured Lou Reed in August 1970.

The Forever Changes Concert is a live album by Arthur Lee and Love recorded in London in January 2003 where the classic album Forever Changes was played.
It has been reissued with extra tracks which helps to give a more comprehensive experience of Love as a band.
Recording a classic album like Forever Changes in its entirety is a risky business. Van Morrison did it with Astral Weeks and he pulled it off. So does Arthur Lee and the latest version of Love.
Live/Dead is the first official live album released by the American rock band, Grateful Dead. It was recorded between January and March 1969 and was released in November 1969.
This is the last albums featuring Tom Constanten on the organ.

Absolutely Live was the first live album released by The Doors, recorded between July 1969 and May 1970.
This album has since been included as part of The Doors In Concert aka American Nights.

What are the best Jimi Hendrix live albums? Only Monterey and Band Of Gypsys were released during his lifetime but there are plenty to choose from that have been released after his death.
To put the dates of the live recordings into context of the studio albums:
The Jimi Hendrix Experience broke up in June 1969 and then reformed for a few months before his death on September 18, 1970.
Velvet Underground with Lou Reed Live 1969 was a live double album that has since been reissued as two separate CDs, part 1 and part 2.
Two new songs were added when this spilt occurred with Heroin added to part 1 and I Can’t Stand It on part 2.
The “cheeky” album sleeve always catches my eye.
