One thing that can make a live performance special is to perform with an orchestra.
It appeals to both progressive rock bands and to singers but one of the most interesting albums is S&M by Metallica as an orchestra is amalgamated into heavy metal.

It was recorded in London on the 25th & 26th September 1999.

Five Bridges is a live album by The Nice featuring Keith Emerson before he formed Emerson, Lake & Palmer. It also features an orchestra, Sinfonia Of London.
It was mainly recorded at Fairfield Halls in Croydon (UK) on 17 October 1969. Country Pie was recorded live at The Fillmore East in New York in December 1969 and One Of Those People is a studio recording.
The Five Bridges refer to the (then) five bridges that crossed the River Tyne between Newcastle and Gateshead in the North East of England.
Concrete: in Concert at the Mermaid Theatre for Radio 2 with the BBC Concert Orchestra is a live album by the Pet Shop Boys.
It was recorded in London on May 8th, 2006 and first broadcast by the BBC on May 27th, 2006.

It was recorded in early October 2014 and was broadcast on 6Music.
If you’re not familiar with the name, Grant used to be the lead singer for the alternative rock band, The Czars.

Hall Of Fame is a live album by The Moody Blues.
It was recorded at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 1 May 2000 and was released in August the same year. The World Festival Orchestra played on the album replacing the Colorado Symphony Orchestra who appeared on their 1992 live album A Night At Red Rocks.

Horslips Live With The Ulster Orchestra is the fourth live album by Irish prog/folk band Horslips.
It was recorded at the Waterfront in Belfast on March 17, 2011 St Patrick’s Day.
Their last live album, Live At The O2 was recorded in November 2009 so there is about 16 months between them but the involvement of the orchestra made this special enough to be broadcast live by BBC Radio Ulster.

It was recorded in Bucharest in 2009 with The Rousse Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Nayden Tadorov.
This is an interesting reworking of some of the Deep Purple songs together with more classical compositions.
There is also a DVD of this concert which is sold separately.
In Classic – Da Mozart A Celebration is a live album by Italian prog rock band PFM.
The group play Mozart classics and some of their previous songs with an orchestra.
