Deep Purple Concerto for Group and Orchestra 1969

Concerto for Group and Orchestra is a live album by Deep Purple.

The concerto was written by John Lord and was performed by Deep Purple and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 24 September 1969. The album was released in January 1970 in the UK and a month earlier in the USA.

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra was conducted by Malcolm Arnold.

Deep Purple Concerto For Group And Orchestra

The first version released was purely the concerto:

  • Concerto For Group And Orchestra – First Movement: Moderato – Allegro
  • Concerto For Group And Orchestra – Second Movement: Andante
  • Concerto For Group And Orchestra – Third Movement: Vivace – Presto

with the second movement split into two parts to fit neatly on a vinyl long player.

Since then we have seen an extended version with some “proper” Deep Purple songs. We still don’t have the complete concert because the evening started with Symphony No. 6, Op. 95 by Malcolm Arnold.

We do have:

  1. Intro (Music And Spoken Word) Deep Purple – 3:28
  2. Hush Deep Purple – 4:40
  3. Wring That Neck Deep Purple – 13:23
  4. Child In Time Deep Purple – 12:02
  5. Concerto For Group And Orchestra – First Movement: Moderato – Allegro Deep Purple With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra – 19:21
  6. Concerto For Group And Orchestra – Second Movement: Andante Deep Purple With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra – 19:11
  7. Concerto For Group And Orchestra – Third Movement: Vivace – Presto Deep Purple With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra – 13:08
  8. Encore – Concerto For Group And Orchestra – Third Movement:Vivace – Presto (Part) Deep Purple With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra – 5:51
