Long Beach 1971 is an archive releasded live album by Deep Purple Mark II.
It was recorded at the Long Beach Arena in Long Beach, California on July 30, 1971 while the band were supporting Rod Stewart & The Faces. It was broadcast on KUSE 91.5 FM radio. I’d love to think that The Faces concert would also be released some time.

Strange Kind of Woman – 11:11
Child in Time – 20:24

Two tracks from In Rock from 1971 and just one from the 1971 release Fireball as Purple continue with their preference for on-stage improvisation rather than churning out plenty of songs. I’m not sure how The Faces could follow this performance.
Mark II live performances with Gillan, Blackmore, Lord, Glover and Paice are always of interest but I do wish that they’d changed the set list more often but at least there’s no Smoke On The Water on this one. I know it’s a classic but I do get tired of its ubiquitousness.
