Live Art Rock Albums Recorded In The 2000s
Art Rock is clever music where the musicians are trying to do something different by combining various art forms and musical styles. It’s not prog rock but it may be close, it’s not normally a big commercial success although some artists like David Bowie and Peter Gabriel are the exceptions.
Wikipedia says “Art rock was a form of music which wanted to “extend the limits of rock & roll”, and opted for a more experimental and conceptual outlook on music. Art rock took influences from several genres, notably classical music, as well as experimental rock, psychedelia, avant garde, folk, baroque pop, and, in later compositions, jazz.” I’d add in the influences of world music as well.

Electric Light Orchestra Live is a live album by the Electric Light Orchestra with Jeff Lynne.
It was recorded at CBS Television City in Los Angeles in 2001 at the first show of the Zoom tour.
The album also includes two new, unreleased studio tracks – Out of Luck and Cold Feet. Personally I’d have preferred more of the live recordings as there are plenty of important songs that are missing.

A Reality Tour is a live album by David Bowie recorded from his performances in Dublin on the 22 and 23 November 2003.
Roxy Music Live is a record of how this great group sounded on the 2001 world tour after being apart from 1983.
Until this album, Roxy Music have been relatively poorly served by the quality of their live albums – Viva, Concerto / Ladytron and Heart Still Beating. I think plenty of people have been burnt by the confusing releases from the 1979/80 tours.
My Rating – 24 out of 30 (that feels stingy but it’s what the three individual ratings add up to).
