Live Art Rock Albums Recorded In The 2010s
Art Rock is clever music where the musicians are trying to do something different by combining various art forms and musical styles. It’s not prog rock but it may be close, it’s not normally a big commercial success although some artists like David Bowie and Peter Gabriel are the exceptions.
Wikipedia says “Art rock was a form of music which wanted to “extend the limits of rock & roll”, and opted for a more experimental and conceptual outlook on music. Art rock took influences from several genres, notably classical music, as well as experimental rock, psychedelia, avant garde, folk, baroque pop, and, in later compositions, jazz.” I’d add in the influences of world music as well.

Sparks have announced that they intend to release their first live album, Two Hands And One Mouth on March 18th, 2013.
This is a souvenir of last year’s tour when Ron Mael and Russell Mael toured as a duo without a band or computer support.
This should be interesting. I remember a few of the people at school back in 1975 or 1976 were crazy about Sparks and I’ve since explored and enjoyed their early to mid 1970s albums. Continue reading Sparks Two Hands One Mouth 2012
Live In Concert At Metropolis Studio is a live recording of a concert in March 2011 by Bill Nelson and the Gentlemen Rocketeers in London.
It comes as a 2 CD plus DVD set or you can buy it as an mp3 download without the video.
If you’re not familiar with Bill Nelson, he was the main man – singer, lead guitarist and songwriter – in art rock group Be Bop Deluxe.
Immediately he broke up the group, he recorded another excellent album, Sound On Sound as Bill Nelson’s Red Noise. Then he abandoned his guitar in favour of keyboards and released many albums of electronic and ambient music.
His Wikipedia entry shows how difficult it is to keep up with the music that Bill Nelson has been releasing.
he’s come back into the spotlight with a cracker.
