What is the best live album by The Allman Brothers Band?
Below is a poll for you to vote for your favourites.
I realise that The Allman Brothers At Fillmore East is recognised as one of THE greatest live albums ever released and I do expect it to win the popular vote because it’s by far the best well known.
But is it really the best?
Yes it features Duane Allman and he was in scintillating form on those nights in New York but do the Allmans fanatics agree that this represents the absolute peak or have they found an even better performance within the archive recordings?
There are plenty to choose from and the performances of the revived band with Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks shouldn’t be dismissed too easily either. Both are terrific guitarists.
1970 Live at Ludlow Garage
1971 Eat A Peach
1991 & 1992 An Evening with the Allman Brothers Band: First Set
1992 Play All Night Live at the Beacon Theatre 1992
as just a small sample of the choice available for the Duane Allman band and the revival band.
Even the choice of deciding which of the 1971 Fillmore recordings you should get isn’t easy. I’ve included the options to help guide people who want to find the best of the Allmans. I don’t think more automatically means better.
