Gil Scott-Heron Tour De Force Live 1994

Tour De Force is a live album by Gil Scott-Heron that captures a concert from about 1994.

It has been released in a number of different formats and edits but I believe that Tour De Force is the most comprehensive. It’s also the version I bought so it’s the one I’m best qualified to talk about.

Variations of Tour De Force have been released as:

Minister of Information: Live
The Best Of Gil Scott-Heron Live
Save The Children
Winter In America, Summer In Europe
Greatest Hits Live

Beyonce At The 2013 Super Bowl

Beyonce performed during the break at the 2013 Super Bowl between the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers.

I had been thinking about featuring these short gigs on the blog since they are the highest profile live music performances each year.

Beyonce performed a medley of her solo hits Love on Top, Crazy in Love, End Of Time and Baby Boy and then she was joined on stage by former Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams to perform Bootylicious and Independent Women. Shge finished with Single Ladies and Halo. Continue reading Beyonce At The 2013 Super Bowl

Live At The Bottom Line August 20, 1977 is a recording of a Gil Scott-Heron & Brian Jackson concert in New York. It is available to buy through Wolfgang’s Vault.

This is the pair playing live thirteen months after the first live album, It’s Your World was recorded. This time, the pair (together with the Midnight Band) were promoting the Bridges studio album. (In fact, Gil says on the recording that it is released “next week”.)

Sam Cooke At The Copa 1964

At The Copa is a live album by soul singer Sam Cooke. It was recorded at the Copacabana night club in New York in 1964.

He died on December 11th, 1964 so this is the last live recording we have of Sam Cooke.

This has a very different sound and feel to Live At The Harlem Square Club.

You can’t take the soul out of Sam Cooke but the emphasis here is on singing ballads.
