Muddy Waters Muddy Mississippi Waters Live 1977 1978

Muddy Mississippi Waters Live is a live album by Muddy Waters.

The songs were recorded in 1977 and 1978 when Muddy Waters was going through a revival in his career thanks to the Hard Again studio album for Johnny Winter’s Blue Sky label. In 1978, Waters released the I’m Ready studio album.

It was originally issued as a seven track single album in 1979 which was then issued as a CD in 1991. In 2003, a second CD was added to create the Legacy Edition while the shorter album also stayed in print.

Little Milton Grits Ain’t Groceries 1972

Grits Ain’t Groceries is a live album by Little Milton.

It was recorded at the Summit Club in Los Angeles in 1972.

Little Milton is one of those artists that is quite hard to classify. Is it blues or soul or R&B or all three?

The Paul Butterfield Blues Band Live 1970

I’ve seen The Paul Butterfield Blues Band Live album offered for sale as a single digital download or two individual CDs called Live and Live volume 2.

It was recorded live at The Troubadour in Los Angeles on March 21–22, 1970 and was released later the same year.

The original Live in itself was a double album when it was originally issued on vinyl.

The Paul Butterfield Blues Band Live 1970

I should warn you that by this time Mike Bloomfield had left the group and Butterfield had designed to change his sound to a more horn based approach.

Wikipedia describes it as a “blues-jazz-rock-R&B hybrid sound” and I agree. It is NOT dominated by surging guitar solos in the way that many, more traditional, blues rock live albums are. I recommend that you hear the mp3 samples at Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk. Continue reading The Paul Butterfield Blues Band Live 1970

John Mayall Jazz Blues Fusion 1971

Jazz Blues Fusion is a live album by John Mayall.

It was recorded in Boston in November 1971 and in New York in December 1971.

After the success of The Turning Point when Mayall turned his back on traditional electric blues and worked with an acoustic band without a drummer, he continued to innovate.

The electric guitar is back as he worked on the connecting areas of blues and jazz.
