Entertaining Friends: Live At the Hammersmith Odeon March 1979 is a live album by the Buzzcocks. It was finally released in 1992.
By this stage, the Buzzcocks had released two studio albums – Another Music in a Different Kitchen and Love Bites – and most importantly, released their best known singles.

There are plenty of terrific hook laden songs in this list as the Buzzcocks pick virtually all their best tracks from their singles and first two albums although I’d have liked to have seen Boredom in there as well. Their biggest weakness is Pete Shelley’s singing. It suits some songs but I think they’d have had more mainstream success with a more tuneful vocalist.
There are a lot of poorly recorded punk rock live albums from these late 1970s but this sounds great.
It captures the drive and urgency of the Buzzcocks and shows why they’ve remained a legendary band. Of course, it helps to have written a classic song like Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve).
I realise I’m biased towards live recordings but this is how the Buzzcocks should be heard. Highly recommended and in my opinion THE live album by the Buzzcocks to buy first.
