The Clash together with the Sex Pistols, The Damned and Buzzcocks were amongst the very first of the bRitish punk rock bands that appeared in 1976 and 1976.
The main band members for The Clash were:
Joe Strummer – lead vocals, rhythm guitar
Mick Jones – lead guitar, backing vocals (Jones left in November 1983)
Paul Simonon – bass guitar, backing vocals
“Topper” Headon – drums (Headon replaced Terry Chimes in 1977 and was replaced by him in 1982)

The Clash aren’t as well served for live recordings as I’d like to see for such an iconic band. Their studio tracks have been repackaged a number of times but their live recordings have been largely ignored.

Live at Shea Stadium is a live album by The Clash when they supported The Who at Shea Stadium in New York City in October 1982.
A previous live album by the by the group, From Here To Eternity had been well received but this was a compilation from many different concerts from 1977 to 1982.
Live From Here To Eternity is a compilation live album from The Clash recorded between 1978 and 1982 in the UK and USA.
The Clash were one of the first punk rock groups in the UK, with Joe Strummer formerly with the pub rock group The 101ers. With their album London Calling in particular they went on to be so much more than punk.
