Elvis Presley Aloha From Hawaii via Satellite 1973

Aloha From Hawaii via Satellite is a live album by Elvis Presley.

It was recorded at the Honolulu International Center (now called the Neal S. Blaisdell Center) in Honolulu, Hawaii on January 14, 1973. It was broadcast the next day on over 40 countries but, because it clashed with The Superbowl, it wasn’t shown on American TV until April 4, 1973. The double album recording of it was released in February 1973.

The original album featured 24 songs. Five more were added when the CD was remastered in 1998.

In 2013, the Legacy edition of Aloha From Hawaii via Satellite was released with the original album on one CD and the bonus tracks plus a recording of the rehearsal.

Little Feat American Cutie 1973

American Cutie is a live album by Little Feat on their tour to promote their third studio album, Dixie Chicken.

It was recorded at Ebbets Field, Denver, Colerado on July 19th, 1973.
but not released until 2012.

This is a single disc version of Late Night Truck Stop released in 2001. This is a radio broadcast recording that I think squeezes through the copyright laws.

Lou Reed Rock N Roll Animal 1973

Rock n Roll Animal was the first live album released by Lou Reed after he left The Velvet Underground in 1974.

It was recorded on December 21, 1973 at the Howard Stein’s Academy of Music in New York. The concert was split into two separate live albums with the second, called Lou Reed Live released in 1975. The last studio album to have been released was Berlin.

Rock n Roll Animal is a controversial recording because Lou Reed turned the Velvet Underground classics into hard rock with duelling guitars.

Climax Blues Band Live, Rare & Raw 1973 – 1979

Live, Rare and Raw is a collection of live recordings by the Climax Blues Band in the 1970s. It was released in October or November 2014 depending on the format and region.

What we have are:

  • Marquee Club London 1973
  • Live in New Jersey 1974
  • Live in Guildford 1976
  • Live from Miami 1979

These are all on separate CDs. When I get it on mp3 I’m planning to store it as four separate concerts.

I’m not exactly sure of the band make-up at these different concerts because CBB made frequent changes. However the main band consisted of:

Colin Cooper – vocals, saxophone, harmonica, guitar
Pete Haycock – vocals, guitar, bass
Derek Holt – bass, guitar, keyboards
John Cuffley – drums

Peter Filleul played keyboard for much of the time but he left in 1973 and returned in 1975. In between Richard Jones, one of the original band members returned to play keyboards and bass. If the recording at the Marquee was very early in 1973, George Newsome may have been the drummer.

The Marshall Tucker Band Way Out West! Live From San Francisco 1973

Way Out West was previously broadcast on the radio and captures The Marshall Tucker Band when they were lean and hungry. There’s a frantic energy shown here that is missing from later live recordings like Stompin’ Room Only.

Eric Clapton’s Rainbow Concert 1973

Eric Clapton’s Rainbow Concert is the famous comeback gig at the Rainbow Theatre in London with Eric Clapton and his friends (The Palpitations) from January 13, 1973.

After recording the exceptional studio album Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs, Eric Clapton’s addiction to heroin overwhelmed him. Fortunately his friends led by Pete Townshend from The Who brought him back from the brink.

This album was originally only 34 minutes with six songs and if that’s the album you know, you need to take a second look. It has been extended by more than double and now features 14 songs including a live electric version of Layla.

Genesis Live At The Rainbow 1973

Live at the Rainbow 1973 is a live album by progressive rock group Genesis that is included in the Genesis Live 1973–2007 box set.

This captures Genesis promoting the fantastic Selling England By The Pound studio album. In my opinion this is one of the greatest progressive rock albums so how well do the songs sound live?

It also has their prog rock anthem, Supper’s Ready with Peter Gabriel. Phil Collins did a great job on Seconds Out but it’s great to have the original.

This Rainbow concert is available as a CD and a DVD in the box-set. Unfortunately the DVD has two extra tracks.

Some of these songs also appear on the Genesis Archive 1967 – 1975 box set which is available for mp3 download so you can pick and choose the songs you want.
