Lou Reed Live Extended Versions 1973

Live Extended Versions is a live album by Lou Reed.

It was recorded at Howard Stein’s Academy of Music, New York on December 21, 1973. It was originally released in March 1975 as Lou Reed Live. In 2003 it was reissued as Extended Versions without the addition of any extra songs.

The first part of this concert had been released previously as Rock’n’Roll Animal.

Frustratingly there isn’t a combined album putting the songs in the right order. This leaves this album seen as the second best leftovers album that concentrates on his solo carerr (mainly Transformer) rather than reinventing the Velvet Underground songs as hard rock.

Rod Stewart & The Faces Coast To Coast 1973

Coast to Coast: Overture and Beginners is a live album recorded in California in October 1973 by Rod Stewart and the Faces.

I have seen plenty of scathing reviews for this album over the years but I really like its sloppy charm.

By this stage Rod Stewart had become the star solo singer with huge hit singles like Maggie May and hit albums like Every Picture Tells A Story. This single and album were number one in the UK and USA at the same time. That’s how big Rod Stewart used to be in the 70s and it was a feat that neither Elvis Presley or The Beatles managed to achieve.

Did anyone ask the riddle “what do you get if you cross Mountain with Cream?”

The answer is West, Bruce and Laing with the following responsibilities:

  • Leslie West — guitar, vocals
  • Jack Bruce — synthesizer, bass, harmonica, vocals
  • Corky Laing — drums

Wishbone Ash Live Dates 1973

Live Dates is the first live album by Wishbone Ash, recorded in 1973, after the critical and commercial success of Argus and when they were promoting their next album, Wishbone 4.

Wishbone Ash haven’t shown much imagination with the titles of their live albums because there are also Live Dates 2 and Live Dates 3 from later reincarnations of the band..
