Live Punk And New Wave Albums From The 1990s
Punk and new wave music was a big shock when it started to emerge in 1976 with its raw, basic, powerful sound.
Wikipedia defines punk rock as
“Punk rock (or simply punk) is a rock music genre that developed between 1974 and 1976 in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia. Rooted in garage rock and other forms of what is now known as protopunk music, punk rock bands eschewed perceived excesses of mainstream 1970s rock. Punk bands typically use short or fast-paced songs, with hard-edged melodies and singing styles, stripped-down instrumentation, and often political, anti-establishment lyrics. Punk embraces a DIY ethic; many bands self-produced recordings and distributed them through informal channels.”
Wikipedia defines New Wave as
“New wave music is an umbrella term for several late-1970s to mid-1980s pop/rock musical styles with ties to 1970s punk rock. The wide range of bands categorized under this term has been a source of much confusion and controversy. The new wave sound of the late 1970s moved away from the smooth blues and rock & roll sounds to create music with a twitchy, agitated feel, choppy rhythm guitars and fast tempos. Initially—as with the later post-punk—new wave was broadly analogous to punk rock before branching as a distinctly identified genre, incorporating electronic/experimental music, mod, disco and pop. It subsequently engendered subgenres and fusions, including New Romantic and gothic rock.”
Before punk and new wave came proto-punk and pub rock in the UK which laid some of the ground work for the “revolution” and after the initial burst of energy, the movement developed into what we know as indie rock and alternative rock.
Punk Rock & New wave Live Albums Recorded In The 1990s
If punk rock was innovative in the mid 1970s and new wave was creating new sounds and trends in the late 1970s and early 1980s, things had changed by the 1990s and groups paraded their former glories.
It’s easy to be cynical about these later albums but the growth in popularity and the improved recording technology means that some people may these albums to the earlier recordings.

Metallic Fo – Live at CBGB’s is a live album by British punk rock band Chelsea.
The first 12 songs were recorded at CBGB’s in New York with the remaining six coming from another gig in NYC at Tramps on the 1999 Social Chaos tour.
Gene October has carried on performing under the Chelsea brand name with different bands but this time, the band that recorded the 1979 self-titled debut album is brought back together.
Live At The Academy NYC 12.4.92 is a live album by Television after they reformed to record their third studio album, called Television.
Their 1977 classic, Marquee Moon is one of my favourite studio albums as they created a new wave / art rock sound unlike anyone who had come before and were style extremely, hip with their guitar solos.
Loco Live is a live album by The Ramones.
It was recorded in Barcelona in Spain and was originally released in 1991.
Live From New York City is a live album and DVD that has also been called Hard Rock Live.
It was recorded at Sony Music Studios in New York City on July 6, 1998.
This is not the place to start since I’ve read about quality problems with it.
