Transatlantic Live In Europe 2001

Live In Europe is a live album (two CDs) . In my version I also have two DVDs by the prog rock supergroup Transatlantic.

Discogs shows the different versions available, with options either as a two CD, a 2 DVD or both.

It was recorded at the 013 Club in Tilburg in the Netherlands on November 12, 2001 while the band were promoting their second studio album, Bridge Across Forever.

Songs On Transatlantic Live In Europe

1. Duel With The Devil (from the album Bridge Across Forever)
2. My New World (from SMPT:e)
3. We All Need Some Light (SMPT:e)
4. Suite:Charlotte Pike (Bridge Across Forever)
5. Stranger In Your Soul (Bridge Across Forever)
6. All Of The Above (SMPT:e)

Suite:Charlotte Pike includes most of the songs in the Abbey Road medley by The Beatles with it performed in sections, sandwiched between sections of the Transatlantic song. This is brave since this is one of the highlights from the best pop rock group that has ever been. Transatlantic just about pull it off although there are better Abbey Road suite highlights on some of the Paul McCartney live albums.

I like Transatlantic because I appreciate the emphasis on melody but I can understand why some prog rock fans hate them for being too commercial and, perhaps, unadventurous.

The first DVD repeats the concert from the CDs. The second DVD has the following:

  • Tour Documentary
  • Shine On You Crazy Diamond
  • Photo Gallery

Playing on the album are:

Neal Morse – Vocals, Keyboards, Guitar
Roine Stolt – Guitar, Vocals
Pete Trewavas – Bass, Vocals
Mike Portnoy – Drums, Vocals

assisted by:
Daniel Gildenlöw – Guitar, Keyboards, Percussion, Vocals

I haven’t given it a rating out of 30 yet but I’m expecting the music to be 24+.

Because there are so many great progressive rock live albums I have split the poll into two and you may find some of your favourites in the second division. Albums will be promoted when they get enough votes.

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

I have also added in a specialised best modern prog live albums poll because the ’70s bands tend to dominate the main prog poll and I think there’s plenty to be appreciated in the newer bands once you’re prepared to dip your toes.
