In theory I should hate the idea of a live compilation and in many cases it doesn’t work but here it does.
King Crimson are a difficult and intimidating band for newbies to approach. Like the Grateful Dead, some people are avid fans but others find them odd. Worse, there are so many live albums and so many different periods of the band.
This probably isn’t the best King Crimson live album but it’s a good one to start with. It’s been put together as a sampler and it lives up to its goal. The only thing I’d quibble about is I’d have disk 2 as disk 1.

Very few albums by King Crimson are available as digital downloads (at the time of writing) but gradually we are seeing some of them creep into iTunes. Hopefully this process will speed up when Robert Fripp sees how much he has to gain.
