The Thieving Magpie (La Gazza Ladra) is a live album compilation by prog rock group Marillion.
It pulls together recordings from 1984 to 1987 and the two CD version includes a live performance of Misplaced Childhood from the Hammersmith Odeon in London on the 9th and 10th January 1986.

For many years, and especially in the mid 1980s when these recordings were made, I dismissed Marillion as Peter Gabriel era Genesis imitators. Instead of appreciating them, |I jided the band as unworthy copycats.
Thirty years later, I’m much more open to the idea of the band and appreciate their efforts to re-energise prog rock and I can’t blame them for wanting to follow in the footsteps of one of the greats. They may not have reached the heights of Foxtrot or Selling England By The Pound but, in the Fish era, they produced some very good songs.
