Background
The history of Lynyrd Skynyrd is dominated by the plane crash in 1977 that killed lead singer and songwriter Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines and his sister,one of their backing singer Cassie Gaines. Their assistant road manager, pilot and co-pilot were also killed and the other members of the band were badly injured.

The band reformed in 1987 with Ronnie Van Zant’s brother Johnny on lead vocals. They started releasing new studio albums in 1991 but none have emulated the success of the first five.
Lynyrd Skynyrd have continued to be a popular live band and have released plenty of live albums including more archive recordings from those glorious early days.
