Live Albums By Lynyrd Skynyrd
Lynyrd Skynyrd have been one of the great southern rock bans since the 1970s.
A plane crash cost the lives their lead singer and songwriter Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, his singer Cassie Gaines who was a backing singer and members of their support team on October 20, 1977. Other members of the band were seriously injured.
Some of the surviving members formed The Rossington-Collins Band and toured and recorded two albums.
In 1987, Lynyrd Skynyrd reunited when five former members Gary Rossington, Billy Powell, Leon Wilkeson, Artimus Pyle, and Ed King joined with Ronnie Van Zant’s younger brother, Johnny.
It’s useful to see the timing of the studio albums before looking in detail at the live albums.

Freebird The Movie: Music From The Motion Picture is mostly recorded at the 1976 Knebworth Festival in the UK with songs from Astbury Park and Oakland added from 1977.
The band were supporting The Rolling Stones at Knebworth and they’d have been a hard act to follow.
