Rainbow On Stage 1976

On Stage is the first live album by Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow featuring Ronnie James Dio’s singing and Cozy Powell on drums recorded in December 1976 in Germany & Japan.

For me, the Rainbow of Rainbow Rising is the classic line up and are a worthy follow on band to Deep Purple.

Bad Company Live in Albuquerque 1976

Live in Albuquerque is a live album by Bad Company of a concert in March 1976 which was withdrawn shortly after its release in 2006. They were promoting their third album,  Run With The Pack.

This is a shame because classic rock lovers and in particular Bad Company fans need a live album of the group in their prime.

David Bowie Live Nassau Coliseum ’76

Live Nassau Coliseum ’76 is a live concert recording of David Bowie performing in 1976 issued as a bonus to Station To Station Special Edition.

This is a legal version of one of the most famous and best David Bowie bootleg live albums.

It was recorded live at the Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale, New York on 23 March 1976. Chronologically, it fits neatly between David Live from 1974 and Stage in 1978.

It also acts as a transition of Bowie moving into from his plastic soul days to the Brian Eno inspired Berlin based albums.

Be Bop Deluxe BBC In Concert 2nd October 1976

BBC In Concert 2nd October 1976 is a live concert broadcast by Be Bop Deluxe at the Hammersmith Odeon, London from the Modern Music tour.

It is one of a series of BBC in concert recordings that are available on Amazon.

Unfortunately they seem to be tucked away because it doesn’t appear on the Be Bop Deluxe page.

Their popular Live In The Air Age album was recorded on this tour but it didn’t feature any songs from Modern Music. This one does.

Two Be Bop Deluxe In Concert recordings have also appeared on another live album – Tremulous Antenna – but this is a new one or at least it has some different songs. There is also a Be Bop Deluxe In Concert recording from 15th January 1976 which I think is the basis for Tremulous Antenna but it seems to have been cut down.

Bob Seger Live Bullet 1976

Live Bullet is a live album by Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band in 1976 in his home city of Detroit, Michigan.

This album turned Seger from a big name locally into a well known international rock’n’roll singer thanks to the intense, energetic performance captured here. After Live Bullet he went on to release best selling studio albums like Night Moves and Stranger In Town.

Ted Nugent Double Live Gonzo 1976 & 1977

Double Live Gonzo is the first live album by Ted Nugent recorded in 1976 and 1977 and released in 1978.

Ted Nugent had been lead guitarist for the The Amboy Dukes before becoming the star attraction in that group and then going solo.

His first studio albums – Ted Nugent, Free For All and Cat Scratch Fever – were popular with heavy metal fans.

Graham Parker Live At Marble Arch 1976

Live At Marble Arch is a rare live album by Graham Parker and The Rumour recorded in London in 1976.

It was recorded as a promotional album and sent to music journalists and DJs to show off the raw pub rock/R&B style of the group. It has been a popular bootleg.

It was included in its entirety on a Graham Parker compilation – Vertigo: The Best of Graham Parker – which I was lucky enough to buy when it came out in 1996. At that stage it was also the only way to get the classic Squeezing Out The Sparks album.

Live At Marble Arch has also appeared on That’s What You Know, a double CD with one disc of acoustic demos and the second has this live album.

Lynyrd Skynyrd One More From The Road 1976

One More From The Road is the first live album from the original Lynyrd Skynyrd band and was recorded in 1976.

This is both a thrilling and very sad live album.

It was recorded in July 1976, fifteen months before the plane crash that killed lead singer/songwriter Ronnie Van Zant, as well as guitar player Steve Gaines and his sister, backing singer Cassie Gaines.

You can’t help listening to this classic driving rock and wondering what Lynyrd Skynyrd led by Ronnie Van Zant would have produced in the future.

All the World’s A Stage is the first live album by Canadian heavy progressive rock band Rush from 1976 concerts promoting their 2112 studio album. It was recorded at Massey Hall in Toronto, Canada.

This is a different sounding group than the one that appears on the second live album Exit Stage Left.
