Luther Allison Live In Chicago 1995

Luther Allison Live In Chicago is a live album by blues guitarist Luther Allison.

It captures him playing at two concerts in Chicago in 1995:

  • Chicago Blues Festival
  • Buddy Guy’s Legend Club also in Chicago.

Luther Allison died on August 12, 1997 just before his 58th birthday. He isn’t one of the better known blues guitarists to the wider world but he’s highly respected by blues specialists.

The Paul Butterfield Blues Band Live 1970

I’ve seen The Paul Butterfield Blues Band Live album offered for sale as a single digital download or two individual CDs called Live and Live volume 2.

It was recorded live at The Troubadour in Los Angeles on March 21–22, 1970 and was released later the same year.

The original Live in itself was a double album when it was originally issued on vinyl.

The Paul Butterfield Blues Band Live 1970

I should warn you that by this time Mike Bloomfield had left the group and Butterfield had designed to change his sound to a more horn based approach.

Wikipedia describes it as a “blues-jazz-rock-R&B hybrid sound” and I agree. It is NOT dominated by surging guitar solos in the way that many, more traditional, blues rock live albums are. I recommend that you hear the mp3 samples at Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk. Continue reading The Paul Butterfield Blues Band Live 1970

John Mayall Jazz Blues Fusion 1971

Jazz Blues Fusion is a live album by John Mayall.

It was recorded in Boston in November 1971 and in New York in December 1971.

After the success of The Turning Point when Mayall turned his back on traditional electric blues and worked with an acoustic band without a drummer, he continued to innovate.

The electric guitar is back as he worked on the connecting areas of blues and jazz.

Warren Haynes Live at the Moody Theater 2011

Live At The Moody Theater is a double live album and DVD by the Warren Haynes Band.

It was recorded in Austin, Texas on November 3, 2011 while Haynes was promoting the Man In Motion studio album.

If the name Warren Haynes sounds familiar it will be from his associated as a lead guitarist and vocalist with Gov’t Mule, The Allman Brothers Band and The Grateful Dead. He’s also played with the Dave Matthews Band.

John Mayall The Turning Point 1969

The Turning Point is a live album by John Mayall.

It was recorded at the Fillmore East in New York on July 12, 1969.

What would you do if you nurtured the superb guitar talents of Eric Clapton, Peter Green and Mick Taylor and they left you for Cream, Fleetwood Mac and The Rolling Stones?

Well John Mayall broke up the Bluesbreakers and, instead of a dominant electric guitar based sound with drums, he turned to acoustic guitars, flutes and saxophones. He started on a journey towards jazz/blues fusion and created an extraordinary live album.

George Thorogood Live 1986

Live is the first official live album by George Thorogood and the Destroyers.

It was recorded at the Cincinnati Gardens in Ohio on 23 May, 1986.

A 2010 archive release of Live In Boston 1982 means that this is no longer the earliest example of Thorogood live.

It is however the best known and most successful as it has been awarded platinum disc status for album sales in the USA.
