This is a concert from the same tour that gave us our official Steel Dan live album, Alive In America so the big question is, how does this compare to that essential recording?
Kid Charlemagne, Sign In Stranger and Aja are included on Alive In America but missing from Green Flower Street.
However we get plenty of extra music with the opening instrumental overture medley of Royal Scam/Bad Sneakers/Aja plus the following extra songs – I.G.Y., Hey Nineteen, Chain Lightning, Green Flower Street, Home At Last, Black Friday, Deacon Blues, Tomorrows Girl, Fall Of ’92, Teahouse On The Tracks and My Old School.
Yes I’d prefer more of the early to mid 1970s Dan songs as my favourite studio album is The Royal Scam. Since the band didn’t tour for about 20 years, we have to take what we can get and not be too fussy about set lists and set too high a standard on sound. I want Dan live to sound different from the studio versions.
