Guns N Roses Live Era 87–93

Guns N Roses Live Era 87–93 is a live compilation by heavy metal metal Guns n Roses. It’s believed that most of the recordings came from the tours to promote the Use Your Illusion studio albums.

Nirvana From The Muddy Banks Of The Wishkah 1989 to 1994

From The Muddy Banks Of The Wishkah is a live compilation album by Nirvana pulled together from concert recordings between 1989 and 1994.

The Nirvana MTV Unplugged album had been a big success but it wasn’t the typical Nirvana sound.

Metallica Live Shit Binge And Purge 1993

Live Shit Binge & Purge is the first live album released by heavy metal group Metallica.

It is a CD and DVD box set:

  • CD = February / March 1993 Mexico City
  • DVD 1 = January 1992, San Diego
  • DVD 2 = August 1989 Seattle

Metallica aren’t a group who do things by half but you do have to be a big fan to be ready to invest in this unless you buy it used.

I’m only going to concentrate on the CD element of the box set.

Black Sabbath Cross Purposes Live 1995

Cross Purposes Live is a Black Sabbath live album and DVD with Tony Martin on lead vocals and Bobby Rondinelli on drums from the 1995 tour.

Can it really be Black Sabbath without Ozzy Osbourne and Bill Ward?

Fans of the original Sabbath may much prefer to hear Reunion from the 1997 get back together tour or Live At Last.

Cross Purposes Live comes in various formats including a cut down 9 track DVD version. Be careful if you decide to buy it that you get the version you want.

Bad Company What You Hear Is What You Get 1992

What You Hear is What You Get (contentiously subtitled the Best of Bad Company live) is a live album by Bad Company recorded in 1992 in California. Brian Howe is the lead singer and not Paul Rodgers.

This album very much revives the debate about when a group stops being the group promised by its brand name. For me, Bad Company has to include Paul Rodgers.

AC/DC Live 1990 1991

Live is the second album by AC/DC and the first with singer Brian Johnson. It was recorded in 1990 and 1991 – a long time after the classic If You Want Blood You’ve Got It.

After the death of singer Bon Scott, AC/DC recruited ex-Geordie singer Brain Johnson and went on to global popularity with albums like Back In Black and Those About To Rock We Salute You.

AC/DC Live

What a boring title after their first live album.

The Who Blues To The Bush 1999

Blues To The Bush is a live album by The Who that was recorded at the House of Blues in Chicago on 12 and 13 November 1999, and at the Empire Theatre, Shepherd’s Bush, London  on 22 and 23 December 1999.

It’s one of my favourites although it’s hard to get because it was exclusively released through MusicMaker.com. I got my copy from eBay.

Deep Purple Live At The Olympia 96

Live At The Olympia 96 is a live album by Deep Purple with Steve Morse on guitar promoting the Purpendicular album in 1996.

It was tough enough following the changes in personnel in Deep Purple in the late sixties and seventies when they were one of the biggest and most successful rock groups in the world. I lost track of what was going on afterwards.

Deep Purple Live At The Olympia 96

Very positive reviews encouraged me to buy this album featuring Mark II Purple except that Ritchie Blackmore has been replaced by Steve Morse.
