Watching or listening to Paul; McCartney live in concert is as close as we can get to experiencing late 1960s Beatles live. This is the album where McCartney makes most reference to his job in the 1960s. Sadly the brilliance of The Beatles songs does show up the tracks that come from the period after the mid 1970s. My Love, Band On The Run, Jet, Let Me Roll It and Live & Let Die are fine but some of the others are second rate, if not third rate.
I love the gutsy performances on Wings Over America and Trippin’ The Live Fantastic (Highlights) and his voice was still naturally strong back then. By this stage, someone thought it would be a good idea to use the autotune facility to smooth out and correct his vocals. I prefer this to Back In The World but when I want to hear McCartney I’ll head for the studio albums by The Beatles or WOA and TTLF(H). This however has the advantage of also watching Macca live in concert.
