Showtime is the third live album to be released by the J Geils Band.
It was recorded at The Pine Knob Music Theater in Clarkston, Michigan in September 1982 and quickly released in November 1982.
By this stage, the band were moving away from their home base of blues and R&B to incorporate a classic rock feel to the material. The single Centrefold was a #1 in the USA and a #3 in the UK.
Songs On J Geils Band Showtime
1. Jus’ Can’t Stop Me (originally on the studio album Sanctuary)
2. Just Can’t Wait (Love Stinks)
3. Til The Walls Come Tumblin’ Down
4. Sanctuary (Sanctuary)
5. I’m Falling (Monkey island)
6. Love Rap
7. Love Stinks (Love Stinks)
8. Stoop Down #39
9. I Do (Monkey island)
10. Centerfold (Freeze-Frame)
11. Land Of A Thousand Dances (bonus added to Sanctuary)
Unlike many live albums, this one has a problem. Inevitably comparisons are made against their too excellent previous live recordings, Full House (1972) and Blow Your Face Out (1975).
This comes up short but it’s still a good live album which, I suspect, could be even better if the full set is ever released.
