Paice Ashton Lord BBC Radio 1 In Concert 1977

BBC Radio 1 In Concert is a live album by Paice Ashton Lord.

It was recorded live at the Golders Green Hippodrome, London on 10 March 1977.

If you’ve ever wondered what Jon Lord and Ian Paice did after Deep Purple split up in 1976, then here’s your answer.

They joined forces with Tony Ashton to form Paice Ashton Lord or PAL.

If the name sounds familiar, you may be aware of Tony Ashton from the UK #3 hit single “Resurrection Shuffle” by Ashton, Gardner and Dyke.

Paice Ashton Lord recorded a studio album called Malice In Wonderland which they promoted with live concerts.

This album has been reissued as Live 1977 with an extra song. There is also a DVD of the concert called Paice Ashton Lord Live.

Ian Gillan Band Live At The Budokan 1977

Live At Budokan is a live album by the Ian Gillan Band.

It was recorded at the Budokan in Tokyo, Japan on 22 September 1977. It was released a few months later.

While Ian Gillan paid tribute to his time with Deep Purple with three classics, this is a much more sophisticated sound that some people have described as jazz rock fusion.

It’s better, more listenable than you might expect but this is not a hard rock sequel to Made In Japan.

10cc Live In Concert 1977

10cc Live In Concert is a live album by 10cc that I found when I was looking through my iPod and I realised I hadn’t mentioned it on here..

This was issued by Pickwick Records originally in 1977.

I think it is a shortened version of the Live and Let Live album recorded in 1977.

While the album cover has the four original members of 10cc on it, this is 10cc with Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman but without Kevin Godley and Lol Creme.

Lone Star BBC Live In Concert

BBC Live In Concert is a live album by the heavy progressive Welsh rock group Lone Star and pulls together short sets from 1976 and 1977.

Between these two concerts, Lone Star changed their lead singer from Kenny Driscoll to John Sloman. After Lone Star broke up, Sloman went on to sing with Uriah Heep.

I saw them at the Reading festival in August 1977, just after their second album Firing On All Six was released.

Little Feat Waiting For Columbus 1977

Waiting For Columbus is the first live album released by Little Feat and is considered to be one of the best live albums ever. Plenty more have followed.

It was recorded at the Rainbow Theatre in London and Lisner Auditorium in Washington DC in early August 1977 on the Time Loves A Hero tour.

Before punk came along, Little Feat were a critics favourite with their unique brand of fusion rock pulling on the blues, country, boogie and funk. Personally I didn’t see what was so special as the studio albums lacked impact.

My problem was I hadn’t seen or heard them play live. This is a great album for someone who thinks they don’t like Little Feat to hear.

Alice Cooper The Alice Cooper Show 1977

The Alice Cooper Show is a live album by Alice Cooper recorded at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas in August 1977.

This is quite late in his career for his first live album and much of his success was in the early seventies.

Alice Cooper is a showman and any live album is going to fail to capture the full experience of his live shows because the “shock-rock” visual antics were such an important part of the entertainment.

The emphasis on death and dying is not to my tastes but he does have some great tunes.
