Live Albums By Hall & Oates
Daryl Hall and John Oates started working together in the late 1960s as they developed their blue eyed soul / soft classic rock sound which led to major success in the period from the mid 1970s through to the mid 1980s.
It’s useful to see the timing of the studio albums and their biggest hits before looking at the live albums in detail.

Hall & Oates Greatest Hits Live is a collection of live recordings from their 1982 tour to promote the Private Eyes studio album.
This catches the duo in their peak commercial period although H2O and Big Bam Bam were to increase their stock of hits in thenext few years meaning Greatest Hits Live is a misnomer as a title. It’s also a title that makes me very nervous as it screams “cash-in”.
This is an exception because it serves as an excellent summary of Darryl Hall and John Oates performing live in 1982.
It features the following American #1 singles – Rich Girl, Kiss On My List, Private Eyes, I Can’t Go For That – and more top 10 singles – Sara Smile, She’s Gone, You Make My Dreams and Did It In A Minute – so there’s no shortage of hits.
