Live Albums by Tommy Bolin
When Ritchie Blackmore left Deep Purple to form Rainbow, Tommy Bolin was invited to replace him.
The former James Gang guitarist was a strange choice in a way. He was remarkably talented but his tastes in music were so much more varied as he showed on his main solo albums Teaser and Private Eyes.
Tommy Bolin died on December 4, 1976 when he was only 25 years sold. he could have created so much more great music but he’s still left a rich legacy and there are plenty of live albums.

The Best Live Albums Of All Time
Please vote in the poll to find the best hard rock and heavy metal live albums. I see a vote as a recommendation to others that an album is well worth investigating.
Because there are so many great hard rock and heavy metal live albums I have split the poll into two and you may find some of your favourites in the second division. Albums will be promoted when they get enough votes.
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment. You can get these albums from Amazon.com – Amazon.co.uk.

Live at Ebbets Field 1974 is the first live album by guitar great Tommy Bolin.
He’s probably most famous to rock fans for replacing Ritchie Blackmore in Deep Purple in 1975 and recording Come Taste The Band and the live albums This Time Around and On The Wings Of A Russian Foxbat.
Before then he replaced Joe Walsh in The James Gang and this live album catches Tommy Bolin while he was thinking about leaving that group in June 1974 but before he joined Deep Purple.

This Time Around: Live in Tokyo is a live album by Deep Purple Mark 4 (with Tommy Bolin) recorded in December 1975.
The concert has previously been released as Last Concert In Japan but this is to be avoided. There were rumours that Tommy Bolin was unable to play his guitar properly that night but things sound much better in this version.
An even more dynamic concert from Mark 4 is available as On The Wings Of A Russian Foxbat.
Live In Albany NY 9-20-76 is a live album by the Tommy Bolin Band a couple of months before he died.
This has some bonus tracks from a concert in New Orleans in November 1976.
First Time Live is a live album by Tommy Bolin (ex James Gang and Deep Purple) recorded in April 1976 at the La Paloma Theater, in Encinitas, California.
This is Tommy Bolin after he’d left Deep Purple and returned to promoting his great album Teaser.
The two sets played were originally recorded by the KBG-FM radio station and can be bought separately as mp3 downloads from Amazon.
On The Wings Of A Russian Foxbat is a live album by Deep Purple Mark 4 (with Tommy Bolin) recorded at the Long Beach Arena in California in February 1976.
It has also been released as:
I much prefer the On The Wings Of A Russian Foxbat title because it’s got a lot more character. What is a foxbat? It was the MIG-25 fighter plane.
At this time, Deep Purple were touring to promote the Come Taste The Band album. I know it’s not a classic like Machine Head or In Rock but I’ve always liked it… perhaps because it was the first Deep Purple album I ever owned.
An early concert in Japan has also been released under the titles of Last Concert in Japan and an extended version as This Time Around: Live in Tokyo from December 1975. Rumour has it that Tommy Bolin was unable to play properly at this concert and the Last Concert In Japan version is light on guitar.
