Peter Gabriel Plays Live 1982

Plays Live is the first live album recorded by Peter Gabriel from his American tour in 1982.

Peter Gabriel left prog rock group Genesis after The Lamb Lies Down In Broadway album. Genesis thrived without their former lead singer and Peter Gabriel recorded some very interesting art rock albums.

A “highlights” single CD was issued of Peter Gabriel Plays Live in America which took four songs away.

David Bowie Serious Moonlight 1983

Serious Moonlight is a recording of the David Bowie concert in Vancouver on September 12, 1983.

It is available as an official live DVD and an unofficial live album CD. I would like David Bowie to tidy up this mess and release it as an authorised CD as there is definitely a place for it within the group of David Bowie live albums.

I haven’t been featuring live concert DVDs without an accompanying CD but I thought I’d make an exception. I’m not sure about the legality of the Serious Moonlight live album but it’s being sold by Play.com and cduniverse.com so I’m guessing that it has a grey status. Legal but not approved by David Bowie.

The Jam Live Jam 1979 to 1982

Live Jam is a live compilation album by new wave group The Jam. It was recorded between 1979 and 1982.

Shortly after The Jam’s first live album, Dig The New Breed came their second with a much wider collection of songs.

Unfortunately it is again compiled from different gigs in different times of the band’s evolution. This is frustrating as I feel I am still deprived of the proper experience of The Jam live.

The Eagles Live 1980

Eagles Live is the first live album by country rock group The Eagles and was mainly recorded in late July 1980 at Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in Santa Monica, California. Five extra songs were recorded in October 1976 at The Forum in Inglewood, California.

Wikipedia reports that Glenn Frey and Don Henley mixed the album on opposite coasts and it’s said to be heavily doctored.

The Jam Dig The New Breed 1977 to 1982

Dig The New Breed is a live compilation album from The Jam featuring songs recorded at concerts between 1977 and 1982.

I remember the heady days back in 1977 and The Jam were caught up in the punk/new wave scene. It was a bit strange because their image and music was a long way from the Sex Pistols.

The developed into a very successful singles band with a series of number ones in the UK and created excellent albums including All Mod Cons and Setting Sons.

Live In Germany is a live album by Southern boogie rock group ZZ Top and was recorded at the Grugahalle in Essen, Germany for the Rockpalast TV series. It was from their 1980 tour to promote the Deguello album.

This is ZZ Top before they changed their sound for MTV success with songs like Sharp Dressed Man. You have been warned.

Rainbow Final Vinyl

Final Vinyl is a compilation album from Rainbow that mainly features live tracks focusing on the time when the group moved into pop-rock in the 80s.

The Rainbow of Since You’ve Been Gone and I Surrender is very different from the hard rock group that Ritchie Blackmore formed straight after leaving Deep Purple.

As well as live versions of the popular Rainbow songs, there are also a few studio rarities.
