R.E.M. refused to issue a live album for many years until the 2005 recording REM Live was released in October 2007.
Since then, they have authorised several other live albums and started to include live recordings as bonuses in the re-release of their classic studio albums from the 1980s.
We haven’t (yet) had the live greatest hits summary that may appeal to the mainstream but we do have a fascinating record of their transition from alternative rock band to one of the biggest, best-selling rock bands in the world.
